The photo you see here is one of the first visits to the site. The project consisted of Building a new interlocking metal seawall around the perimeter of the Light Tower. A deteriorated timber seawall structure was present approx 2' down from the water surface. The new seawall was constructed to mirror the Old timber seawall and new fill sand brought in by barge to infill Steel seawall. Masonry repairs, including Crack stitching, Limestone foundation restoration, some re-pointing of brick, took place. Lead coated copper flashing installed above arched entry door. New Steel door and Wood windows were installed, Complete Lantern removal, (using a barge and crane to remove), then brought back to Mihm Facility, where the Cast iron parts were completely dis-assembled, sandblasted, Primed using a zinc rich primer, Intermediate coat of Epoxy appled, and A finish coat of Eurethane. All new glass and Glazing installed in the lantern room. New cast iron Stair treads and window uprights were installed, even a new finial (bird spike) installed by owner Frank MIhm (see pics) A challenging and very interesting project in which Mihm learned a lot.
